Facebook Security: Get notified (by email) if someone else is logging into your Facebook account
Every now and then I come across people who are too perplexed about their privacy and security. Earlier it was Google and now the attention has turned to Facebook. Not that Facebook hasn’t been naughty about the privacy policy. But most of the time privacy and security is a matter of human choice more than anything else.
On Facebook, there is a feature which once activated will inform you about logins from devices (machines) other than yours, giving you a sense of red alert if someone else is trying to access your Facebook from some where else. This could be a little tricky to follow if you have more than 1 device and login simultaneously from various locations using different devices. However, it’s a feature I believe most of us should activate to keep an eye on Facebook’s unauthorized login.
Following is how you do it:
Go to Account > Account Settings.
You will see a page that looks like the one below.
Click on change, next to Account Security.
Toggle “Yes” to the radio button that reads “Would you like to receive notifications for logins from new devices?” and click Submit.
Now you have to log out of your Facebook account. On the next login, the user is prompted with registering the current machine.
This should be it. Next time if you or someone else logs in from some other machine, Facebook will send you a mail saying that there’s been a login from some other machine. This will happen every time you login using a non-registered machine. So if you login from many machines this could be annoying but at the same time will provide you with better security notifications.
