Get LimeWire in Ubuntu!
One of my friend AG (Arun Ganesh) asked me what do to find good music and in turn how to I download that good music on my computer. Well, I am going to save the post that talks about how I discover great music, for some other day. Today, I am going to tell you how I download good music. Please be advised that it’s legally not right to download DRM protected music, and hence this guide is only for information purpose.
You can use multiple methods to download a specific song starting from some website, to downloading it using file hosting services like rapidshare or for that matter use torrents. I’d love to use torrents if I am planning to download a complete album or a complete collection from a specific artist. But when I want to download a specific song, then using torrent is a bad idea. One of the best ways to download music mostly single tracks is using LimeWire.
We all know how easy it is to install LimeWire in Windows and hence that’s not the motive of this post. The purpose however is to bring to your kind attention how we can get the same software LimeWire running on Linux (Ubuntu). If you think it’s rocket science to install LimeWire on Ubuntu then I am sorry to disappoint you because it’s as simple as installing it on Windows.
Only thing that we need is a deb package of LimeWire, which you can get it from here. Double click the downloaded LimeWire deb package and start the installation. Make sure that you are connected to Internet as there are dependencies which will be required and hence will be downloaded before installing LimeWire.
If you want a turbo charged version of LimeWire with other great features you can check the official site.
Once you have installed it you can start it by going to Applications->Internet->LimeWire

When you start LimeWire for the first time you’ll be prompted with the setup wizard screen.

Just follow the onscreen instruction to setup LimeWire. It’ll take a couple of minutes to find all the peers and to get connected.
