How to upgrade to Jaunty Jackalope!
With a 6 month release cycle of Ubuntu, the excitement never goes down. I remember not too long ago I installed Intrepid Ibex on my machine and right now I am using Jaunty Jackalope Alpha 2. I am also very excited about 15 Jan 2009 when the alpha 3 will be rolled out.
The great news is that there’s been a lot of new things which will be part of the new release of Ubuntu 9.04 code named Jaunty Jackalope. For example a brand new kernel namely 2.6.28 which will have a support for ext 4. Along with a long list of new features Jaunty Jackalope is all set to rock the operating system market and will surely give some run for the money to much hyped Windows 7.
We are going to see how in easy steps you can get Jaunty Jackalope Alpha 2 (as it stands today) on your machine. The upgrading is really simple.
1. Launch the Run prompt by hitting ALT+F2.
2. Type “update-manager -d” without quotes and in the window click Upgrade.
You should be connected to Internet
Caution:It’s not really advised to upgrade to alpha releases or for that matter beta releases and especially not on a production machine. So please make sure you backup your data before you upgrade.
