IE 8 Suggested Sites feature sends your personal information!
Well, if you did not know and forgot to read the privacy policy before installing IE 8 Beta 2, you should check out the privacy policy under Suggested Sites section. You’ll be thrilled (Pissed off) to see that a lot of your information is being sent to microsoft. First let’s see what suggested site feature brings to you.
Suggested Sites is an online experience designed to show you which websites you visit most, and to provide you with suggestions of other websites you might be interested in visiting.
Now that’s a great feature, only problem is the next line that reads:
When you
turn
on Suggested
Sites, your web
browsing history
is sent to MicrosoftWhen you turn on Suggested Sites, your web browsing history is sent to Microsoft, where it is saved and compared to a frequently updated list of websites that are similar to ones you visit often.
When Suggested Sites is turned on, the addresses of websites you visit are sent to Microsoft, together with some standard information from your computer such as IP address, browser type, regional and language settings. To help protect your privacy, the information is encrypted when sent to Microsoft. Information associated with the web address, such as search terms or data you entered in forms might be included.
I think this is preposterous! And in my humble opinion it should be turned off or best MS should not pull this information to their servers. I turned off the feature as soon as I read the privacy policy which can be found here.
Let us know what you feel!
