One of my favorite source for images and pictures is Flickr. Probably this is only one product from Yahoo that’s used extensively by me. I love the way it’s organized and multiple options that it comes with. I could safely say that it’s one of the complete images storage, editing, organizing and sharing platform. One thing that irritates me though is the fact that it’s not all that easy to navigate and download the original size image.

By default the image that opens in Flickr or Flickr album is not of original size and you’ll have to click “All sizes” to reach the page where you can get the original size image. Quite ironical for a lovely service like flickr. I think flickr should give that option on the first page itself. However, you can now get the original size image with just one click.

All you have to do is to be on firefox or flock and to have an extension installed namely Flickr Original 1.0.1. According to the author of Flickr Original 1.0.1, Jason Ting, describes the extension as

My extension extracts the url of the image you select, parses out the image id, and sends it to a simple web service that uses the Flickr API to return the url of the original image.

Features

Download the original image on flickr with just one click

Usage

Install the extension found here. Restart Firefox and right click the image and click “Download Original Flickr Image” to download the original image from flickr.

Limitation

Well there’s no limitation with the extension. However, Flickr as a service will not allow you to download Original Size image when photographer has marked “All Rights Reserved” or has disabled downloading.
