Many users often face a issue where you stumble across some interesting link and the next minute you have to be on the move, thus not allowing you to take your laptop with you. Now you can share the link between your browser and any smartphone you own, allowing you not to miss any of interesting links.

There are some known modes of sharing links from browser to your android device but if you have any other smart phone, this is the perfect option for you. It supports all major OS as well as supports all major browsers.

1. Phone Set Up

- Go to site to phone from your laptop and click setup with your phone.

- The site will generate a unique link and ask you to visit the link using your phone browser.

- Follow the instructions on the page which are adjusted as per you smartphone OS.

- After completing the setup, click on Complete Setup.

2. Browser Setup

There are two ways of sending links to your phone. Either you can go to site to phone website and use Quick Send and send the links to your phone. You don’t have to install an addon or create an account in this case.

Second method involves installing a plugin(IE 8/9 and chrome) or a bookmarklet(rest of browsers).

- Click on setup browser.

-Follow the instructions.

3. Sending the link to your phone

-After completing the setup, whenever you are on a site the link of which you want on your phone. just right click and select the option ‘Send Page to Phone’ or click on the icon in menu bar.

- Go to your phone’s app launcher and open the bookmark you created earlier.

- This will launch the webpage, the link of which you just sent to your phone

You can also view the history of the sent links.

For some this might not be an interesting tool, but for some who are plagued by this issue this might be a welcome cure.

I doubt if there is any one of us who doesn’t use streaming videos. Streaming videos are becoming popular day by day and are surely here to stay. From TV shows to movies to live matches to all sorts of videos, streaming the video is the popular means these days. Here I talk about ability to download these videos. A;though there are number of such downloaders available on the net but this software xVideoServiceTheif (a.k.a xVST) is probably one of the best around.

One of the major advantages of this software is the number of streaming video websites that it supports. This one of many plus points this software has over other downloaders. It currently supports around 77 such sites and the list is continuously increasing. Some of the popular sites it supports are YouTube, Blip, Bebo, MySpace Video, ClipJunkie, GameSpot, Metacafe, and a few adult websites as well.

The interface is pretty simple to use. The simple download pane provides the controls for download , option to add/ delete videos along with extra option which you can alter.

The video which is being downloaded is automatically converted and saved in a specified format. You can alter the format to one in which you want the video to be stored. Another of its feature is scheduling the download , so that you don’t have to be present at the time the video is downloaded.

Also you can search for videos from the interface of the software only ( Command+F). The software searches for the title of the video in all the associated video sites. Also you can create a custom search specifying your preferences.

If you , in your search, come across a video you like you can download using the download button present on low right. You can add a video and simultaneously download multiple videos. Also you can specify the folder in which the downloaded video should be automatically stored.

The software is available for Windows, Linux and Mac, so you everyone can make use of it.

System optimization is a critical activity that not many users implement. The reason to optimize your system is because Windows gets bloated up as time goes by and it’s a good idea to clean and optimize your system for better performance and to have some free space. Clearing or cleaning temporary file is one such step that could make your system perform better by speeding it up.

Windows comes with some native applications to clean up temporary files. However, there is a small utility called as CleanMe that can make this job easier by cleaning system’s temporary files such as recycle bin, temporary system files, temporary internet files, temporary application data, application logs, system logs, history, cookies, recently opened, office temporary files and downloads.

CleanMe comes both as an installable application and as portable file depending on the needs of the user.

CleanMe can clean:

- Recycle Bin
- Temporary System Files
- Temporary Internet Files
- Temporary Application Data
- Application Logs
- System Logs
- History
- Cookies
- Recently Opened
- Office Temporary Files
- Downloads

Do you have a slow machine? Are you wondering why your machine gets slow and sluggish with time. One major reason is orphan files, both as Windows files and entries into your windows registry which gets bloated with time. The reason for these orphan files is because when you uninstall a software, some files are left behind on your machine. IObit advanced uninstaller helps you uninstall and remove unwanted programs and folders from your computer fast and easily.

Benefits

While Standard Uninstall works as the Windows built-in Add/Remove Programs function, Advanced Uninstall function helps you scan Windows registry and hard drive for any possible installation leftovers.

Look for a pure uninstaller that does NOT need an installation and will not screw your system again? Advanced Uninstaller is the answer.

Even a program is not listed in Windows built-in Add/Remove Programs, this feature still can help you automatically find the program’s leftovers and traces in your system and remove them completely.

Uninstall several applications easily with just one click

Easily view what has been changed by Advanced Uninstaller. Every time an “Advanced Uninstall” is performed, a restore point image will be automatically set for possible future system restoration.

No IT knowledge needed, just download it and simply run it to remove all junk programs.

This will help your machine run faster and smoother.

I was starting up my laptop during my class today and the loud startup noise of the Windows startled everyone in the room and I wished I could have somehow turned the volume down. Even the mute button on my laptop works only after Windows are loaded. Even if it works , you have to remember every time to mute or lower the volume before switching on the computer. Did you ever experience a situation where you turned on your laptop and the welcome greeting sound irritated you and people around you. Auto Mute is a volume control software which helps you in such situations.

Auto Mute is a portable volume control software that allows you to mute the welcome sound when you switch on your computer. It comes with numerous interesting features. It can be used to automatically mute sound on logoff , suspend or shutdown so that whenever the system starts next time ,it is mute. The next system start is absolutely silent even if you forgot to turn the sound off in previous session. After that you can enable sound effects manually, using a shortcut combination. You an also use the keyboard shortcut to enable or disable mute operation while working normally.

The default shortcut provided is ctrl+f10 but the key can be configured. The only other options provided by the volume control software are to run the program during startup and to play a computer beep sound whenever the state of the sound changes from mute to on and vice verse.

The software is portable for Windows and is supported in Win7 as well as Win Vista.

Download here : download

We must have read Xcopy command in old text books of DOS, but have we ever used it in modern day operating systems like Windows XP, Vista or Win 7 ? We would probably use explorer to copy large number of files from one location to another but using Xcopy we could apply filter like copying only those files which have certain parameters as true.

Xcopy command was missing in Windows Vista , but it is now back in Windows 7 and even a switch is added to the extension list

INSTALLATION

After downloading the Windows Vista IP Configuration Tool package, simply copy its three files to a folder :

XCopy Tool.hta

FileCab.ico

XCopy Tool-ReadMe.doc

USING THE TOOL

1. To launch the tool, Just double click on the HTA file

2. The shown screen is displayed and one can move the pointer over a switch to see the function of the switch.

3. Click the Select Source and Select Destination buttons and make your folder/ drive selections.

4. After confirming the source and destination folders , you can begin selecting options.

5. You can then choose from any of the 30 available XCopy command options. But you must know about Xcopy command and know how the combinations of different options work.

6. After you click ‘OK’, you’ll be prompted to confirm the operation before you proceed.

7. After you click ‘OK’, a Command Prompt window will open and display the result.

Mac users have quite a lot of different features which are not inherently present in Windows. But nonetheless, numerous programs have been developed for Windows which replicate the effect of the features of OSÂ X and perform the same tasks you can do in OS X. One of these programs is ‘Expose’ ( I guess most of you are familiar with it) which provides a nice way to toggle between different opened windows. ‘Switcher’ is a clone of ‘Expose’ for Windows among number of other clones for ‘Expose’ but this one is probably the best one and has been proved to work better than most of the other clones in the fray.

You can switch between the tiled view of windows that is so common with mac users.

You can also move over to ‘Dock’ view which as shown below displays the current Window in larger tile and using the tab key one can switch between the window tiles.

If you wish to alter certain parameters in the features , there is a customisation feature in in standard as well as advanced customisation options.

You may choose any default key for starting up the program but the default key is Win +Tab but this will replace the pre designed feature of Flip 3D present in the Windows. But you can define separate shortcut for using Flip 3D using Switcher.

Most of us would have at times forgotten to do some or the other things. An easy way to overcome this problem would be to have notes sticking all around your workspace. A better way would be to have a computer application to manage your notes. Windows has its own version of notes but when I came across Stickies I was amazed at its simplicity and effectiveness. It is a small and simple application which does not writes to the registry nor does it messes with the system files.

Stickies is a simple application designed to serve a purpose, it doesn’t support animation not would you find eye catching graphics with it. Its simply a rectangular window on the screen on which you can place text notes. Once created the text notes will stay with you till the time you take them of. Thus whenever you log on to the machine you would be reminded of the pending work

Installation is pretty simple and would not take more than a minute or so.

After the installation you can start adding your own to do things or the thhings you need to remember on the stickies. It would look like the sample screen shot shown below.

The next image shows the various options that are provided with this application. These include changing the color, the opacity of the notes and many other options. The most useful one according to me is the ability to set an alarm reminding you for a particular task or job that needs to be done.

I admit this application is not flashy or something out of this world. But it certainly has a lot of functional usage. So feel free to try this small and simple application.

Keyboard shortcuts can be very useful in reducing the your time in carrying out day to day activities in Linux. Although it is not possible to learn each and every keyboard shortcut but if you make it a practise to use some of the very common ones it would create a lot of difference in you Linux experience.

Here are a few useful Linux Keyboard shortcuts :

1. Arrow up or Arrow down : The up pr down key when used in a terminal windows allows to cycle through history the commands used in the terminal windows. Using this shortcut you don’t have to retype the commands and also you don’t need to remember what commands you issued earlier in the session.

2. Alt + Arrow Key : In Linux pager allows you to have multiple desktops at one time. Instead of moving the mouse to the window to switch between different desktops , you can use Alt + Arrow keys to switch between the different desktops. This works in all desktop environments and window managers.

3. Alt + Tab : This shortcut allows you to cycle through different windows and stop on the window which you want to open. Instead of using mouse to click on the window you want to open , you can use this shortcut to good effect. This works in most dektop environments.

4. Ctrl + Alt + Del : If you are stuck and everything else fails to work , you can use this shortcut to immediately restart your computer . Though you will loose all your unsaved data , so you must use this command carefully.

5. Ctrl + Alt + Backspace : You can use this shortcut when X isn’t responding or some program has held up your desktop and nothing is responding. This shortcut logs you out of X and takes you back to login screen. It works with all desktop environments and window managers.

6. Ctrl + Alt + F* : This is a useful shortcut which switches between various virtual terminals. You can use this shortcut to switch to terminals 1,2,3 etc with shortcut Ctrl + Alt + F1, Ctrl + Alt + F2, Ctrl + Alt + F3 etc. This will open a text based terminal window which can be used for debugging and terminating applications.

7. Ctrl + C : When you are working in a terminal window , you can kill a process which you are following with Ctrl + C command.

8. Ctrl + R : This is a useful command research option. When you use this shortcut , you are prompted to enter a character or a string of characters. You’ll get all the command you may have used earlier with the search character in it or the combination of search characters. Once the search result appears on the screen, you can press enter to execute the command.

9. Ctrl + Z : This will zombie an application. If you want to put the application in the background but not kill the process and get back to the terminal , use this command to put the process back in the background.

10. Ctrl + a and Ctrl + e : When working in a text editor , you can get to the end of the line using Ctrl + a and beginning of the line using Ctrl + e. These sh0rtcuts do not work in GUI environment.
