It can help you find similar images to the one that you already have, basically its a search engine that does your searches based on the image file that you upload. via TinEye, you submit a picture and then TinEye finds out all the information regarding that file like where it came from, its modified versions, the higher resolution versions of the image , if they exist.

With TinEye, when an image is submitted, the application creates a compact and unique digital signature or ‘fingerprint’ for it, it then compares this fingerprint to every other image in its index to retrieve matches.

TinEye makes use of image identification technology rather than keywords or meta data or watermarks of the image.

Tineye is a useful application, it might take some more time for it to become popular but still its a very handy application and can be of use in many situations.
